Will it go? Piano & furniture access
It's the question behind every tricky move: will the piano, the sofa, the wardrobe actually fit through the door and round the stairs? Nine times out of ten the answer is yes, here's how we know.
How we work out whether it'll fit
Standing in a doorway with a tape measure, most big items look like they'll never go. But moving isn't about whether something fits flat through a gap, it's about angles, sequence and technique. An experienced crew reads a space differently: which way to turn a piano first, when to stand a sofa on its end, how to use the give in a doorway, and where the real pinch point actually is (it's rarely where you think).
For pianos there's a useful rule of thumb: almost all of them, even large grands, will turn a 45-degree corner. That single fact rescues most ‘it'll never go’ situations, because it means the same piano that came in can nearly always come out, up or down stairs, around a half-landing, or out through a window if need be. Furniture follows similar principles. Beds and flat-pack wardrobes can be dismantled and rebuilt, and a surprising amount comes down to patience and the right lift.
The best way to get a definite answer is to show us. Send a photo or two of the item and the tight spot (the doorway, the stairs, the turn) through the quote chat, or book a free video survey and walk us through it on your phone. We'll tell you honestly whether it'll go, and how we'd do it.
Will it go? · good to know
Will it go: your questions
How can you tell if my piano will fit?
Experience, plus the rule that almost all pianos turn a 45-degree corner. Send us a photo of the piano and the access and we'll give you an honest answer.
My doorway looks far too narrow, is it hopeless?
Usually not. The apparent pinch point is rarely the real one, and angling, sequencing and the right equipment get most items through.
Will a big sofa or wardrobe go?
Often yes. Sometimes by turning or standing it, sometimes by dismantling and rebuilding beds and flat-pack units. Tell us the item and the access.
What if it genuinely won't go?
We'll tell you honestly and talk through the options rather than damage your home or your item forcing it.
How do I check before booking?
Send photos through the quote chat, or book a free video survey and show us the access live on your phone.
Not sure it'll fit?
Send us a photo of the item and the tight spot, and we'll tell you honestly whether it'll go, and how.
